Detailed parking information

Parking and ending your trip

How do I lock the car if I want to park for a short period of time?
Before you get out of the car, select ‘Park & Come Back’ on the in-car screen. In some cars you will have to use the iDrive controller to scroll down. You will see a confirmation screen to confirm that you’ve selected ‘Park & Come Back.’ Lock the car with the ReachNow app or your Member Key card on the windshield card reader. You will pay $0.10 per minute while the vehicle is parked.

Do I have to return the vehicle to the location where I picked it up?
No. ReachNow is a free-floating car sharing service, which means you can pick-up and drop-off cars in any approved parking space in the coverage area. Approved spaces include legal metered and non-metered on-street parking spaces, Restricted Parking Zones (RPZs), select spaces in partner private parking lots, and select Park &Ride locations. If you park in an unapproved parking space, you are responsible for ticket and/or towing fees.

How do I drop off the vehicle?
Once you’ve parked in an approved space, avoid the cost of a tow or ticket by double checking the nearby signs and the curb color. If the space will convert to a no-parking zone, do not park there. Tap the Start/Stop engine button and lock the car to end your trip using your ReachNow app or tap your Member Key card on the windshield card reader. When the light on the reader turns green, your trip is complete. Double check that you’ve closed all the windows and the sunroof to avoid issues ending your trip.

Where can I drop off ReachNow vehicles?
You can park and end your trip in any approved parking space inside the coverage area. If you’re outside the coverage area, you’re responsible for paying any parking or meter costs. You must return to the coverage area before you can end your trip.

Can I end a trip in Portland?
No. Seattle cars belong to the Seattle fleet and trips can end inside the Seattle coverage area. That being said, you're very welcome to take a car to Portland and back. Also, your ReachNow membership works in every city, so enjoy ReachNow while traveling in Portland.

Can I take ReachNow to the snow?
Winter driving requires special consideration. Our ReachNow fleet of xDrive (all-wheel drive) vehicles does great in most conditions, more on xDrive here. The BMW 3-Series and BMW X1 vehicles feature xDrive. However, our cars do not have cold weather tires, nor do we provide tire chains. Do not take a ReachNow vehicle where chains are mandatory.

Where can I end my trip?
ReachNow trips can only end within the Seattle coverage area in approved parking spaces, including:

Legal on-street parking spaces
In Seattle, legal on-street parking is free, including meters and RPZs. Two things to watch out for: (1) only park in spaces that have a time limit longer than 1 hour, and (2) do not park in a space that converts to a bus zone, loading zone, food truck zone or any other time-restricted parking space. The only exception is in Downtown Seattle, where some restricted parking spaces are accessible outside of 1 hour before the space converts to a no-park zone. See the map of this area and read more in the “Time restricted parking spaces” section below.

Designated parking spaces
We now offer dozens of free designated parking spaces at private parking lots and garages, including the Pacific Science Center’s Claypool Memorial Garage, Eden Apartments, 500 Mercer St. Garage and more. A full list of designated parking is available here. Just like street parking, these spaces are first-come, first-served.

Seattle Park & Rides
You can start or end your trip at select Park & Rides within the coverage area, including Northgate, Greenlake, Airport-Spokane and SW Spokane St. Parking at Park & Ride locations is exclusively for members connecting to transit, vanpools or carpools.

Parking at SeaTac Airport
Start or end any trip at the WallyPark Premier Garage (18613 International Blvd, Seatac WA 98188). ReachNow cars have dedicated parking on Level 2 of the garage. After parking, leave the ticket on the dashboard and grab the WallyPark shuttle to the terminal. When returning from the airport, hop on the WallyPark Premier Garage shuttle, which picks up at island 1 and island 3 in the Courtesy Shuttle area at SeaTac. Please note there is a $5 Airport Fee added to all trips that start or end at WallyPark Premier Garage. Need help? WallyPark Premier Garage: (206) 455-9611.

Can I park in Residential Parking Zones?
Yes, within the coverage area, you can legally park in residential parking zones. You must be within the coverage area to end your reservation.

Where Can I Park Temporarily?
You can temporarily park in any safe, legal space by selecting ‘Park & Come Back.’ If the car is ticketed or towed while you’ve parked temporarily, you are liable for fees.

Where Can't I End My Trip?

The following are unapproved parking spaces. If you park there and the car is ticketed or towed, you will be liable for the cost:

Private off-street parking
Even if they say "public parking," you cannot end your trip in private lots. This also includes driveways, parking garages, office buildings, supermarkets, malls or apartment complexes.

Illegal parking spaces
You can’t park in any illegal parking space, red or yellow painted curb, or signed no-parking zone. In Seattle, you must obey the following parking distances: 5 feet from driveways/alley entrances, 15 feet from fire hydrants, 20 feet from crosswalks, and 30 feet from Stop or Yield signs. Please pay attention to parking signs and curb colors.

Parking spaces with short time limits
You cannot park in spaces with time limits of less than 1 hour, such as 30 minute loading zone

Parking specificed for special use
You can’t park in spots designated for another use, such as bus stops, commercial vehicle load zones, food-vehicle zones, taxi zones, valet zones, reserved electric car spaces, spaces reserved for other car sharing programs, disabled parking spaces (w/out a valid, displayed permit), etc. No parking within 15 feet of either side of a fire hydrant.

Temporary no parking zones
You can’t park in Temporary No Parking Zones that are restricted for events, construction, etc. Watch for signs and make sure you don’t park in a space that will become a temporary no parking zone within 24 hours.

Time restricted parking spaces
In Seattle, there are hundreds of parking spaces that become no-parking zones during peak period parking restrictions (like rush-hour bus or travel lanes, temporary bus layover zones, or morning carpool permit only zones) due to risk of towing. These spaces are identified by special signage. Ending a trip in these spaces is not approved. We allow ONE EXCEPTION ONLY IN DOWNTOWN SEATTLE. You may park and end a trip in a time-restricted parking space within a select area of Downtown as long as it does not convert within 1 hour. This special downtown area is bordered by Mercer St. to the north, Jackson St. to the south, I-5 to the east, and Alaskan Way/Elliot Ave/3rd Ave S to the west). For example, in this Downtown area, you can park in a 3-6 p.m. peak hour bus lane at 1:30 p.m., but you cannot park there at 2:30 p.m. because it will convert to a no-parking zone in less than 1 hour.

Parking distances
In Seattle, you must obey the following parking distances: 5 feet from driveways, 15 feet from fire hydrants, 20 feet from crosswalks, and 30 feet from Stop or Yield signs. Please pay attention to avoid any yellow or red painted curbs.

Other RestrictionsYou cannot park anywhere you wouldn’t be able to park your own private vehicle. If you block a loading zone, in a time restricted parking zone or any other space that results in a ticket or tow, you will be liable for the cost.
